Harry and Meghan
This is what I posted on Facebook on January 9th 2020 when they announced that they were stepping back from being senior royals.
For all the people celebrating Harry and Meghan "stepping back" from royal life, you're celebrating because you don't actually understand what this means.
The British taxpayer has spent millions and millions and millions of pounds on Harry. That's pounds not dollars. I can't even imagine what the cost of Harry's royal life has been all these years.
Harry's royal upbringing, his private education, his luxury vacations 5+ times a year, his jetsetting, his planes, his clothes, his cars, his royal residences, his upkeep and renovation of those residences, his security required to follow him everywhere, and his money he lavished on all his girlfriends - their vacations, their residences, their gifts and jewels and clothes and security.
The British taxpayer paid for Harry and Meg's giant wedding, remember? They paid for all Meg's jewels and tiaras. They paid for Harry and Meg to travel the world. They paid for Harry and Meg's numerous luxury vacations. Harry and Meg just took a six-week luxury vacation to Canada where they solidified their decision to "step back" from being senior royals. The British taxpayer paid for that trip.
The Queen gifted a royal "cottage" to Harry and Meg after their wedding, on top of their other residences. They spent untold sums renovating it before they moved in to their new royal home. The British taxpayer paid for all of that while homelessness is at a record high in the nation. I noticed how Harry and Meg had nothing to say about the unfairness of that. I was paying attention.
Harry and Meg didn't say they want to stop being royals. They said they want to stop being "senior Royals". It's not about abolishing the monarchy. Meghan didn't "infiltrate". She knew she was marrying into untold privilege and luxury which her son will get to enjoy too.
And now, after spending an untold amount of money on these parasites, said parasites say they don't want to work for the British taxpayer anymore.
I'd be absolutely fine with all these royals getting kicked out and left to fend for themselves like the rest of us.
I'm not fine with said royals taking all their privileges and refusing to do the work that "justifies" it. If Harry wants to step back from the royal life he was born into then give back that title, give back the royal palace homes, give back the jewels and precious clothes and luxury cars and boats and planes. Refuse all security. Pay back every penny and then say you've "stepped back" from royal life and are "financially independent".
Otherwise you haven't "stepped back" from royal life at all, you've only demanded more privilege.
What they mean when they say they want to be financially independent is that they want to get book deals and movie deals and make tons of money that they don't have to answer to the British public for. They mean they don't want to be accountable or transparent about how much money they control. That's what's happening. So they want to use the fame of the monarchy for their own personal gain, not for the service of the people.
Did you hear them say they want to give back their titles of "Duke and Duchess of Sussex"? No. That's because they're not giving anything back.
It's possible that the Queen might strip them of that title anyway. Or that the British public will demand it. It's possible that they might end up being forced to give back their royal residences. But they did not give it back upfront, did they? Because they want to keep it. They want to keep their privilege, hoard their wealth, and raise their son to be just as entitled and spoiled and parasitic as they are.
